Ilham Pinastiko

I was born and raised in Bandung, on December 3rd, 1986. I gained my bachelor degree majoring in Product Design at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in 2004 and my master degree in the same major in 2011. Since I was a college student I had shown an interest in wood as a material, and a number of unique wood-processing methods as a stage to create a product. This interest started to grow and turned into a hobby that I indulged in until 2011. At that time, I successfully crafted the first wooden watch in Indonesia. For about four years I worked as a product consultant for a wooden watch brand, striving to develop and expand the brand — until 2015. Later I planned to start a fashion and jewelry business through a fine design scheme and product research. I believe that a good design will make a good business. Driven by this motive, design process concept of a product has been my first orientation in founding thing brand.

Slamet Riyadi

I earned my bachelor and master degrees majoring in Industrial Design at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). Following my graduation, I was involved in a number of design projects that eventually led me to earn a Ph.D. in Design Management at Chiba University, Japan. My interest in user experience design and the wearable product has encouraged me to start PALA with my partner, Ilham Pinastiko. He believes that design is the core key of all recent businesses. Other than design as a unique identity of a brand, the value of design can be a problem-solving innovation in business — the user’s exclusivity and personal experience are surely intricate to imitate by the competitors.
